Science of Writing 103: Writing to Learn

Writing to Learn (SOW 103) is one course in a 4-course Science of Writing Series focused on bringing research and evidence-based writing practices to educators in an asynchronous format. You may complete this course on its own for 3 hours of Professional Development Units (PDUs) or you may complete it alongside the other courses found within the Science of Writing Series. Writing to Learn (SOW 103) focuses on the intersections between the science of reading and the science of writing.

Science of Writing 102: Paragraph Writing

Paragraph Writing (SOW 102) is one course in a 4-course Science of Writing Series focused on bringing research and evidence-based writing practices to educators in an asynchronous format. You may complete this course on its own for 3 hours of Professional Development Units (PDUs) or you may complete it alongside the other courses found within the Science of Writing Series. Paragraph Writing (SOW 102) covers the pedagogy needed to move student writing from the sentence-level to the paragraph-level. A variety of paragraph structures will be explored to address three types of writing: informational/expository, narrative, and opinion/argumentative. Participants will use content from Oregon’s Tribal History Shared History Lessons for paragraph writing activities.

Science of Writing 101: Sentence Level

Sentence Level Writing (SOW 101) is one course in a 4-course Science of Writing Series focused on bringing research and evidence-based writing practices to educators in an asynchronous format. You may complete this course on its own for 3 hours of Professional Development Units (PDUs) or you may complete it alongside the other courses found within the Science of Writing Series. Sentence Level Writing (SOW 101) covers the pedagogy needed for writing simple, expanded, compound and complex sentences. Participants will examine the foundational role that language plays in supporting sentence writing by deepening their understanding of syntax along with expressive and receptive language using the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPA).

Science of Writing 104: Transcription and Spelling

Transcription and Spelling (SOW104) is one course in a 4-course Science of Writing Series focused on bringing research and evidence-based writing practices to educators in an asynchronous format. You may complete this course on its own for 3 hours of Professional Development Units (PDUs) or you may complete it alongside the other courses found within the Science of Writing Series. Transcription and Spelling (SOW104) will cover transcription, handwriting, typing, and spelling.
